"The Straw"

It was a dark and stormy night, the lightening cracked all around the old castle.....

No, no, no that's the wrong story. The Straw the straw that broke the camels back that's the one. The weight was bearable. The days were long and full of endless grains of sand needing to be passed by. Sometimes for fun one single grain would be focused on just so that it would be special and the knowledge that no one in history had ever or would ever focus on that single speck gave feelings of satisfaction that momentarily, at least, it was possible to be one with the universe. Overall the days seemed endless with no hope of feeling that progress was being made on the journey as what lay before and what was past were no different than the present. Life felt full but the weight of so much to carry had begun to weaken the body to the point that pain was an ever present companion. It seemed it could not become more than it was until that fateful afternoon. All it took was a seemingly minor stumble, a fault in the mechanism of the daily routine. The structure did not give way all at once. Like an earthquake there were phases to the event. The incident, pre-shock wave, the acute phase and then the aftershock where bit by bit like dominos lined up around the floor, it, me, came tumbling down.
